LOCAL HOME BUILDER HONORED BY NATIONAL AWARDS PROGRAM

(Cortland, NY, November 10, 2009) – Middleport, NY-based panelized package supplier, Barden Building Systems, received a national home building accolade, capturing the Presentation of Home Plans Award in the 2010 BSC Excellence in Home Design and Marketing Awards program. The honor was awarded by the Building Systems Councils (BSC) of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) – a trade association that represents the concrete, log, modular, and panelized building industries – at their annual awards program on October 25th, 2009.

Sponsored by the NAHB Building Systems Councils, the BSC Excellence in Marketing and Home Design Awards has promoted excellence in the systems-built housing industry for more than ten years. All winners were announced at an awards luncheon in Marco Island, Fla., held in conjunction with the BSC SHOWCASE event - the leading trade show and conference based centered on the systems-built housing industry. Home manufacturers, builders and industry associates were among the groups recognized.

"This year's award winners like Barden Building Systems prove that even in a slow housing market, the systems-built industry is raising the bar in residential marketing and home design concepts," said BSC Chairman Michael H. Weber with Lancaster Redevelopment Corp. "Our award winners are adding credibility to their businesses and are shedding a positive light on the building systems industry as a whole."

The annual BSC Excellence Awards are judged by a panel of industry experts, and companies like Barden Building Systems were given praise for the quality of their submittals.

"It is truly an honor to receive the BSC Excellence Award for Presentation of Home Plans," said Mark Barden, President of Barden Building Systems. "At Barden Building Systems, we strive to provide innovative, practical housing solutions using systems-built technologies. This award shows the hard work and vision of our dedicated employees."

Awardees were recognized for excellence in achievement in several marketing and design categories, and covered a range of concrete, log, modular and panelized homes. There were scores of entries submitted for award categories ranging from Outstanding Model/Sales Center, to Presentation of Home Plans, to Best Web site.

For a complete list of winning companies and projects, including Barden Building Systems, visit www.nahb.org/2010bscawardwinners.

Award winners were announced to a crowd of nearly 300 systems-built industry professionals at the awards luncheon. Winners received plaques to commemorate their efforts. They will be featured in upcoming editions of NAHB's e-newspaper, Nation's Building News. Some projects will also be on display on the BSC Awards Wall at the 2010 International Builders' Show in Las Vegas.

ABOUT THE BSC:
The Building Systems Councils of the National Association of Home Builders is made up of manufacturing, builder, and associate members who advocate building with systems. Systems-built homes are constructed with concrete, log, modular, or panelized systems. They are constructed to the same code standards and reflect the same, and often enhanced, quality levels as any site-built construction. The advantage of systems-building is that it's done in a fraction of the time, with a fraction of the waste, reducing costly weather exposure. Many systems-built homes are inherently "green," adding an environmentally friendly label to the product.

ABOUT NAHB:
The National Association of Home Builders is a Washington, DC-based trade association representing more than 200,000 members involved in home building, remodeling, multi-family construction, property management, subcontracting, design, housing finance, building product manufacturing and other aspects of residential and light commercial construction. Known as "the voice of the housing industry," NAHB is affiliated with more than 800 state and local home builders associations around the country. NAHB's builder members will construct about 80 percent of the new housing units projected for 2009.

Press Release - February 2009
The Barden & Robeson Corporation celebrates 100 year anniversary.

The Barden and Robeson Company which is headquartered in Middleport, NY, has been a very versatile company over the years, but always successful. The company is now the largest manufacturer of panelized homes in the northeastern United States.

Total company sales have averaged $28 million annually the last two years and only the sluggish economy and a resulting slump in home buying will keep the company from bettering that mark in 2009. Employment of 85 employees is expected to remain fairly stable through 2009.

Panelized housing was the farthest thing from George L. Barden's mind when he started in business for himself in 1909. A native of Penn Yan, NY, he and Roscoe J. Robeson teamed up in 1909 to produce spokes and hubs for wagon wheels for a plant in Penn Yan.

The pair formed Barden and Robeson Corp. and switched from wagon wheels spokes and hubs to the production of bushel baskets for the fruit growing trade. Barden became president of the new corporation and Robeson assumed the post of vice-president.

THE BUSHEL BASKET business proved a successful venture and in 1927, Barden & Robeson opened up a second production facility located on Van Buren street in Lockport. Both the Penn Yan and the Lockport plants flourished during the 1930s. It was during the 1930s that Barden & Robeson added the production of baby furniture at the Penn Yan location. The baby furniture operation was housed in a separate 20,000 square foot plant from the 45,000 square foot bushel basket plant at Penn Yan.

Along came World War II and Barden & Robeson joined the all-out war effort. Bushel baskets production at the Penn Yan and Lockport was switched to the production of ammunition boxes and in 1942 a former furniture factory at 103 Kelly Avenue, in Middleport was also acquired for additional ammunition box production.

Ammunition boxes were produced by Barden & Robeson throughout the war. With the advent of peace, such war production was returned to the output of bushel baskets at Penn Yan and Lockport.

At the Middleport plant, postwar efforts were centered in the first production of pre-engineered / panelized homes by Barden & Robeson. As this business grew in the postwar years, the bushel basket began a slow decline. Both bushel basket and baby furniture production were stopped in the early 80's. The supplying of building materials for the single family, light commercial and church markets have been Barden's focus ever since.

Today, Barden & Robeson is owned and managed by the 4th generation. Mark Barden is President, Eric Barden is Vice President and Executive Sales Manager and Tim Gelder is Secretary/Treasurer.

Barden has also recently announced that they have entered into the log home industry. Barden Log Systems will be fully introduced at Turning Stone Resort and Casino in February and will be available throughout the entire Northeast and Atlantic coast by March of this year.

To accommodate growth of the building material supply business, the Middleport facility was expanded to 60,200 square feet of space in 2005.

Barden & Robeson and its Barden Building Systems has become a leader in the building material supply industry and one of the largest in its field. Only the current condition of the economy has interfered with continuing growth.

Barden expands international shipping

Barden Building Systems recently shipped two new homes as part of the company's inaugural project with Project REBUILD Community High School in Canton, Ohio.

Project REBUILD, which opened in 2004, is an Ohio Department of Education-certified, vocational high school that teaches students construction skills through in-class learning and hands-on construction.

Students are at-risk youths who come from inner-city environments of poverty, crime and, in some cases, abuse and/or gang-related violence.  Because the students have not been successful in traditional school settings, the Project REBUILD program includes education, employment skills training, social services, peer support, leadership development, life skills education and GED classes.  The program includes a rotation of classroom training and on-the-job training for which they receive $8/hour

In 2006, Project Manager A.J. Myers met Barden Regional Manager, Mike Boylan and learned about Barden's panelized construction system which is particularly advantageous for Project REBUILD. In 2007, Project REBUILD officially became a Barden Independent Dealer.

"Barden's model fits our program perfectly. First, the quality of construction is superior. Also, because construction time is much quicker, my supervisors and I get to spend more time teaching, and the students get to participate in more projects than they would using conventional stick-built construction," Myers said.

Barden Building Systems supports Project REBUILD by providing all-expense-paid training for students in Barden's Tully (New York) factory, plus specialized training manuals, materials and company clothing. Barden gives some leeway in crane time to allow for sufficient on-the-job training.  Barden also provides extra administrative support through Boylan.

Project REBUILD'S plans include building an exact replica of the Barden plant outside Canton (Ohio), which will serve as classroom and office spaces.  The project will be funded by the State of Ohio. The school is sponsored by the Ohio Council of Community Schools and funded, in part, by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
